Harriet Tubman is one of America’s most beloved historical figures but has sadly been largely relegated to just a few facts during Black History Month. This incredible ex-slave, spy, cook, nurse, public speaker and rescuer deserves a story worthy of her stature. Minty is a “reimagining” of Harriet Tubman as an action hero. Her two favorite possessions were her Bible and her pistol and she used both to rescue hundreds from the clutches of an evil institution. It is a period piece with a modern flare.
Set in the piney woods of Maryland on the Underground Railroad, Minty (Harriet Tubman’s nickname), and her sidekick Sam, come across two runaway slaves being hunted. When Bill and Clara are taken under Minty’s watch, all hell breaks loose as the group struggles to maintain their covertness as slave hunters bare down on them. But there is something else even more threatening to the Underground Railroad than slave hunters, and Minty isn’t about to let it stand.
